Eleven years ago i installed Instagram. We were living on a different planet. Just look what the interface looked like. We were deep into Skeuomorphism, that means interface objects that mimic their real-world counterparts. Like the before famous app Hipstamatic our smartphone was supposed to become a Polaroid camera. Just take a random image, apply a digital filter to make it look analog. That was that.
2011
I was on holidays. As always when i find the time to try out things. The picture above was taken 580 weeks ago. I slowly stopped posting stuff to Instagram a couple of weeks ago because the app feels broken, trapped between periods. I have no solution to the problem of pleasing the old crowd while ensnarning the new crowd. It must be a terrible job to educate people making them join you on the inevitable journey called change.
2019
In 2019 i took the second generation of Spectacles to another summer holiday to film and edit Insta Storyslides. To be honest that was quite a lot of work, using a video editor like Luma Fusion to add effects and layers. It was fund and felt right at the time. A new but fast established way of (layered) storytelling. It did not last that long. BLM and Covid were topics that i covered but soon the whole concept of slides felt outdated when TikTok gained traction and the concept of High Density Content led to a different form of audiovisual content.
So here we are in the summer of 2022 with Instagram trying even harder to become TikTok while u-turning or not due to popular demand. Currently it seems as if Meta is trapped. No idea if they can steer around in the long run. Not sure what content will look like in 3 years from now on.
I spent my summer vacation to produce and post fast paced content on TikTok that is not at all seen by my social circle (except my mum). Gathering nameless likes, mainly documenting stuff for me, myself and i. Not very keen on adding any kind of entertaining Mehrwert for whomever. Just trying to catch vibes, documenting moments. If one thing is clear in all that mess it is that we will produce more and more and more content. And that moving images might become dominant to still images. Let's reassess soon.
